19 April: Book launch The Artist Interview

On Thursday 19 April (15.30 - 17.30 hrs.) at The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the booklaunch will take place of The Artist Interview. For Conservation and Presentation of Contemporary Art. Guidelines and Practice.

In order to preserve and maintain contemporary artworks, we need authentic, content-related and technical information which we can obtain by interviewing the artists who produced them. The SBMK (Foundation for the Conservation of Contemporary Art), RCE (Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA) worked together for years to develop guidelines and good practices.

This handbook provides a scenario including tips and checklists for conducting artist interviews, as well as ten sample interviews that give an insight in the (im)possibilities of an artist interview as a tool.

The Artist Interview is an exentsive manual how to go about interviewing artists with many interesting eexamples from interviews, practival tips and proposals for various types of questions, edited by Lydia Beerkens, Paulien 't Hoen, IJsbrand Hummelen, Vivian van Saaze, Sanneke Stigter and Tatja Scholte.

The aim of this handbook is to equip to conservator, curator, art historian, student with tools to retrieve most and accurate information from the artist and to allow the interested reader a view behind the screen in the conservation, preservation and presentation of modern and contemporary art.

This publication was made possible with support of SMBK, RCE and the University of Amsterdam.
