At the BankGiro Lottery’s annual Goed Geld Gala (charity funds gala) on February 11th, the Kröller-Müller Museum, the Rijksmuseum, Mauritshuis and Van Gogh Museum received a total of € 7,652,575. For the Kröller-Müller Museum that means a sum of almost € 1,1 million for the acquisition of new works.
Recently the Kröller-Müller Museum was able to acquire Forme rumore di motocicletta (1913-1914) by Giacomo Balla, thanks to the substantial support of, amoungst others, the BankGiro Lottery. The painting, which comes from a private collection, has been acquired for a sum of 2.8 million euros and is therefore the most valuable acquisition in the history of the museum. Through the acquisition of Forme rumore di motocicletta the Kröller-Müller Museum is now able as the only museum in the Netherlands to present Futurism as an integral part of art history in the museum collection.
Without the BankGiro Lottery contribution, the museum would be unable to successfully realize its acquisition policy. We are, therefore, extremely grateful to the lottery.
